Camp Sonshine is an award-winning, county, and state-licensed, and ACA accredited Christian day camp in Florida. We serve families in the Tampa Bay area. Our programs cater to the developmental needs of each age group we serve. Therefore, we carefully select staff from around the world who are passionate about working with youth. In addition, we intentionally model behavior that parents want their children to emulate.

Camp Sonshine Founder
In 1981, David began Camp Sonshine in his mom’s backyard as a college freshman. His goal was to establish a camp experience beyond mere “daycare drop-off” for busy parents. He envisioned a place where kids could have fun and acquire essential skills for navigating the journey of growing up. Hence, Camp Sonshine was born!
In 2021, after running Camp Sonshine in Maryland for years, Pastor Kirk Carey and Sabrina Carey move their family down to Florida, and bring Camp Sonshine with them. Soon, they start Camp Sonshine Florida, bringing the same passion, dedication, and commitment to excellence here to Florida.

Safety and Security
Camp Sonshine goes to great lengths to ensure kids are safe and secure while maintaining its fun and exciting programs. Therefore, you can rest easy that your campers will be safe with our trained leadership and quality programming.
Staff recruiting and training
Camp Sonshine invests countless hours to recruiting and training top-notch counselors. All our summer counselors undergo thorough pre-screening and receive rigorous training prior to the summer. Our carefully selected staff foster special relationships with campers.

Camp Sonshine is a Christian camp - What does that mean?
As a Christian camp, our core belief is that every child is deeply loved and uniquely valuable.
That’s why we work hard to create an environment where campers feel emotionally secure, free to be themselves, and surrounded by kindness and encouragement. You want a place where your child feels accepted, supported, and truly seen, and so do we.
Each week of camp, we explore a positive “Word of the Week”. A biblical value like compassion, patience, forgiveness, or courage. These words come alive through fun activities, team-building moments, and age-appropriate conversations that help kids grow in confidence, character, and emotional resilience. Whether they’re making new friends or trying something new, every camper is supported every step of the way to have the best summer ever.
Camp Sonshine exists to create joyful, lasting memories where children and youth experience God’s unconditional love. That means every camper, regardless of their faith background, is treated with care, respect, and genuine affection.
